This weekend I took pictures of my friend about the outside things women struggle with, such as weight and appreance. I also did a little bit on how women give up things in order to look "right" in everyone else"s eyes.
For my concentration series I am taking pictures of life as women. The world and community has always had an effect on how women look, think, and the things they do, even if you don’t realize it. I know what it’s like to want to change yourself because of how your “suppose” to look, which is why I’m doing this subject for my concentration series.

I feel like I've seen a lot of these images before. You might want to work more abstractly and not so literally. For example, instead of the weeping at the scale, you could work with distorted reflections in mirrors. In fact, you could do your entire series working with mirrors to reflect self image. I'm not sure black and white is the best choice for these types of images. They are all a little gray. I think the tape measure image is the most effective; the stripes on the shirt exagerrating the sinching in of the waist. Let me know what you think of the mirror idea. Also, please check the grammar of your concentration statement.

ReplyDeleteI love the image you're creating. Many women struggle with their self image, and I can see how you're trying to express that. My favorite picture is the measering tape sinching around her waist. The stripes in the image make the image even stronger.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you're making "life as a woman" a concentration. I can see how you're trying to express that by the scale and the tape measure. I really like this. keep up the good work!
